Proud of this tradition (well, we did it last year too) where we give everyone at @PostlightStudio $500 for the not-for-profits of their choice. Ends up being a great list.

@heybonanos Yeah I mean let's be clear I'm like a half bag of Duane Read spicy gumdrops that you found in your desk.
@bmorrissey There's some CRM that outsourcing companies use that uses this really weird blue font treatment in email and it's a huge tell that this is just pure spam, and it blows my mind that no one realizes how obvious it is. For years.
@EmilyGorcenski Oh I see. I tend to favor access but I think I get your POV.

@kjhealy This is wise. Youth can't appreciate org-mode.
The overall design on NY State Senate website is pretty good and the auth flow on this form was solid (confusing on mobile when I first tried it though). I would definitely up font-size and make the type black on this form, with a little line-height.

@seldo The weird thing is I didn't have to.
@seldo Listen to me goddammit I validated RDF using XSchema via XSLT2.
@seldo Laurie I got ISO 8879:1986 (Information processing -- Text and office systems -- Standard Generalized Markup Language) on interlibrary loan in 1994 and photocopied the whole thing on an unsecured college photocopier and now you tell me that's USELESS?

@shabbychef @IMDb NEVER also it's deeply contrary to mission and the dumps are core. The preview API is also super good.
Obviously the last 4 millennia of librarianship still matter enormously. But reactive rapid-action archiving is a new thing for the era where we burn 100,000 libraries of Alexandria a day.
There's rhyme and reason to it all. There just didn't used to be an Internet Archive and now there is.
The replies to this show why the @internetarchive is so key to preserving our extremely ephemeral past. It sees archiving as URGENT.
@drewtoothpaste It's a sign of how messed up the entertainment industry is these days that there are like a million roles for stepdaughters and only a few for stepmoms.

@esouthard How much does it cost at an Amazon scale?
The thing about open stuff like RISC-V is it sort of seeps in everywhere. If the future is lots of apps running on OSes then who cares; if the future is lots of VM+images/containers getting passed up and down and all around IoTish platforms over ridiculously high bandwidth, hmm.
This is less about Amazon threatening Intel and more about Amazon paying to fab its own licensed ARM chips to control its own destiny. It feels like the only true threats are like RISC-V and that's a super longshot.

@max_read Facebook cares about brands and insofar as publishers are brands they are valuable, as are celebrity dogs and sneakers. But they don't pay money, actually ASK for money, while really great brands like Smithfield Hams deliver great engagement free.

The other thing I love about tourists is when the people who are clearly the hottest back home have no idea how to hold themselves in the face of indifference. They're looking everywhere for approval and no one is looking back.
The great thing about NYC tourism is that there is no more “authentic” experience of the city than getting fleeced by some tour company and fed brown-bag pizza. That's it.
There are 100 tourists waiting for a charter bus near Wall St. at 9:42AM and some of them are eating pizza out of brown paper bags sharpied with the word “pizza.

I asked our illustrator @stephencarlson to leave WordPress and Salesforce happy, but in the background, could it look kind of ominous and upsetting? As if this were a dangerous union between terrifying forces?
What happens when Wordforce and Salespress combine? I wrote about a thing that is happening in our world, which is that headless CMS and headless CRM are finding each other—and learning and loving together—and finally, becoming one.
@shabbychef I mean there are 27. 9 million small businesses in the US, I'd gladly take it.
Ulgh dude if you're tired of being called a union buster who mistreats workers you don't threaten to make some cheap site that ranks the media, you buy WashPo.
@patrickc @craigmod I don't think it has to be “incidentally”—the association builds value both ways! (Anyway the themes are well-executed and I hope it's succeeding.
Seriously reupping this it's important. https://twitter.
@Bitchinville @richziade @PostlightStudio Aww Gabe dammit I miss you.
Also add “named CEO of ~50 person and growing product firm in NYC” to the list of things I never expected. Up until four years ago my job description was “occasionally make people cry about software.
@theory @richziade @PostlightStudio I mean we love resumes.
For whatever reasons there are hundreds of outsourcing firms that cold-email and they all use this same dark blue type treatment in their emails so you immediately know “erase this.
I'm expected to get invited to buy tickets for so many leadership conferences. I wonder if the outsourcers who use dark blue Georgia as their default font will keep emailing.
We changed my title to CEO ( @richziade is President) because @PostlightStudio is growing and no one we meet has time to figure out what a “co-founder” is. My role won't change but I am perversely fascinated to see what kind of nonsense will fill my email inbox now.
At Postlight we build software for lots of different industries (custom search engines, financial APIs, a birding app for the Audubon society, ...
CMS ❤ CRM It’s nice to see two acronyms make friends Illustration by Stephen Carlson At Postlight we build software for lots of different industries (custom search engines, financial APIs, a birding app for the Audubon society , things like that). This means we hear lots of different people complain about software.
@craigmod Agreed. Increment is a solid content marketing product and if there were more like it the idea wouldn't be so debased.
This is the greatest video I've ever seen https://www. youtube.

@harrisj Imagine having Andrea Martin and Martin Short on the same cast. You could write absolutely anything.
@harrisj Hahahah oh god with the split faces. Burnt into my brain.
@inthefade That's a pretty good husband.
@FARTRON Yeah it's ridiculous and so dumb no one knows what the hell is going on.
@harrisj As far as I can tell Andrea Martin is the only truly evolved human.
@harrisj Oh Jesus that thing. Pretty much any Guy Caballero story is so good.
Anyway I was probably 11 when I saw this in a rerun and I've never forgotten it, it's everything I love and the SCTV cast has brought me joy ever since no matter what nonsense they are cast in.
The lead singer gets revealed through the lyrics to be more worried about his high taxes and access to drugs. Everyone is a hypocrite.
It's got so many levels. Mel's Rock Pile was a show within the fake SCTV network.

Paul and Gina meet up with Christian Madsbjerg to discuss the ideas behind his new book, “Sensemaking: The Power of Humanities in the Age of the Algorithm” What happens when you take a philosopher out of their element and plunk them into management? How can the business and tech worlds benefit from the humanities?
@slavin_fpo Meetings are great.
@wugmump I just know this: When I'm in the Finder I'm treated like a simple man and that's fine, I can be a simple man, but as a simple man I want a simple way to click the shiny pictures and write my simple words.
@wugmump I'm glad you raised this issue. I literally never go into my Downloads folder except for this but I find I often have to click the date view in order to find recent files.
You all turned opening a file in an app, something that was TOTALLY WORKED OUT 34 years ago, into the equivalent of going through airport security and then finding out your flight was cancelled.
And then since I downloaded some randomly named Word Doc I have to go find something named SQUIQQLYPOO_2934-2429-931139330. docx in my downloads folder and open that, and then I'm in my shitshow downloads folder looking through who knows what garbage.
A true mortal sin of software in 2018 (REDMOND HELLO) is when I doubleclick/download some file, you make me update the software, or ask me to opt in to some privacy-destroying program, and then DON'T OPEN THE FILE. You had exactly one job, it was important, and you WRECKED IT.
I should br clear I know over 13 million Peter Gabriel facts.
@jrobertlennon Lot of women all around the world have made that very mistake.
@jrobertlennon Bad: “From nippled skin washed white as silk. ” Good: The bass all through “Us.
@babarganesh Yes. What's missing are the live albums and the soundtracks although the expanded edition of So had the audio from the POV/Live in Athens tour video.
It has to wear you out to be the gateway used to explore the infinite mystic feminine using 48-track digital recording.
I haven't listened to Peter Gabriel on repeat since college. Now that he's on Spotify and I'm listening as an adult, I've noticed that it may have been very difficult—albeit rewarding—to date Peter Gabriel.
@JPaskin Heh. You've had your share of surprises.
@sophaskins Aww my god that's ... Well it's beautiful but it's also a wicked cool name.
@livlab Oh yeah I've seen this up close and written recommendations for various friends' applications to different accellerating programs and it's a huge stressball. Citizens really take it for granted.
@amyhoy Oh wow that's beautiful. I want to eventually be that guy.
@seldo Whoa that's how it happened?! Also that's a huge move.
@Dockjaw That was a fantastic strategy. I want to build a fanless system but know I'll just end up with copper tubing everywhere.
@Dockjaw Hoooooollly shit when was this/did you run Linux.
@joshin4colours It's because we like to show off. Any examples you can remember (no stress if not I know what you mean).
@KNF100 What did you do right after you learned you were having twins? We went to breakfast and just stared at each other.
For me: When we thought we'd lost the pregnancy but instead the OB/GYN went, “You have twins!
@ConnorSouthard How did it turn out?!
What were the biggest good surprises in your life? It's okay to brag a little.
@theodoreross I mean I feel that if there's one thing the straddle generation has to offer the yoofs it's that even when they repeatedly tell you you're useless and it's hopeless then you're not actually out of the game.
@theodoreross Oh that's right I was tech support for the whole fucking magazine.
@theodoreross I kind of miss how safe and quiet it felt in there once I'd loaded it up with books and there was lots of snow.
There's a thing @mariabustillos says: Don't forget there are good surprises, too.
At age 35 I was working at a magazine, I had no plan, we were broke, we were accepting we couldn't have kids, and I'd bought these huge shelves from Ikea and walled myself off from everyone in my office so they had to get through a little labyrinth to get to me.
My twins are reading, which is weird. On the Staten Island Ferry yesterday my son named a seagull Blaze, then as the boat pulled in to the slip he yelled, “Blaze!
@tomcoates @mikeindustries Oh this is great. I've seen a lot of Father Ted but almost everything else here is new!

@tomcoates @mikeindustries But I will go look!
@tomcoates @mikeindustries I don't know how many rural murders I can take Tom.
@tomcoates @mikeindustries Which admittedly had aliens but I learned a lot about council estates!
@tomcoates @mikeindustries I'm sort of taking that as table stakes. We LOVE that shit and it's massively self-reinforcing.
@tomcoates @mikeindustries Well I mean these are two wild-ass empires with unbelievable influence both soft and hard. And both are going through a huge reactionary collapse-of-neoliberalism moment that is very painful to behold.
@tomcoates @mikeindustries I mean no doubt! I'm just saying that the Britishness that gets to us is very likely to mention the crows in the tower or who is Captain of the Oppidans, or Balliol.
@tomcoates @mikeindustries It feels that over the last couple decades less and less socially realistic UK stuff has come through. As a kid I remember: The Singing Detective, Threads, My Beautiful Laundrette, etc.
@tomcoates @mikeindustries It's taught. Our liberal arts education is an extended riff on anglophilia starting with Chaucer, a vast swath of children's books are Etonian roleplay, for decades PBS broadcast BBC historical dramas, and our biggest fantasy stories are all medievalism + dragons.

Our entire universe being a mining rig for some AI controlled reality-proving hyper-blockchain would explain a lot. Like in our lives we ARE all doing an enormous amount of sometimes ambiguous work just to eventually validate someone else's anonymous transactions.
This simulated universe is a terrible waste of energy resources for unclear goals. Maybe the singularity was achieved billions of years ago by steadily self-modifying blockchain mining rigs and we simply exist as the side effect of a particularly egregious proof of work effort.
A simulation would have some knowledge-driven goal, or at least be fun. Otherwise you'd be wasting so much energy that could be used for preserving your intelligence during stellar decay.

@seldo Well things were just calming down a little which would be nice too. The JavaScript world could really use an opportunity for self-reflection which—oh my god that's an AMAZING accidental JavaScript pun, I'm sorry, my brain just completely stopped.
@seldo And holding down the sheer shininess of having a proper fast targetable VM in the browser that can call out to canvas and webgl will be impossible and many expenses will be incurred. But I'm also excited!
@seldo You still use React with the virtual DOM in JavaScript when you could be calculating all state inside a WASM C virtual DOM that lets you calculate state changes 2,000 times faster (you pre-define all state changes in WebLua) then handing that over to the real AKA "evil" real DOM?
@seldo For example how far away are we from a virtual DOM in Rust or a transpiler from Java with a forked version of the Android SDK that targets the browser? It's going to be a wild journey of engineering with little coordination and much posturing.
@seldo First, Laurie, let me say I've been using your product more and more and really enjoying it, the way the little spinner says loadalldepsintoidealtree makes me think about ideal trees. But what I've warned people about is that WebAssembly is a tornado of change in our world.

Gothamist is back! Local news lives!
Anyway life, huh? People are way too serious about it.
Just by typing this out loud I've doomed myself to raise a language poet who becomes a leading Flarf revivalist in 2034.
To be clear my daughter can do anything she wants in life as long as she writes about it with efficient, sharp sentences that take aim at their targets and hit them.
Also getting my regular doctor to call me back is hard but if you even WHISPER the word bariatric the same hospital system rolls out a big red threadbare carpet to welcome you because it's obviously pure profit. It's threadbare because we're kind of hard on the carpet.
I need to be here to help her avoid alliteration, to help her shape her paragraphs, and to edit out the rumination on the pair of my giant pants she finds in the back of the closet when they move out a few years after the funeral.
I'm incredibly worried about the quality of the personal essays my daughter will write if I die of fatness.
Mostly I hate the power that demon carbs have over my life and also I worry about the novels my children will write if I am not here to edit them.

CORS is one of those things that drives home just how much web standards are powerful building blocks but glued together by a layer of poop.
I'm launching an API-themed bar. It'll only serve CORS.

@RickWebb Fun fact: I performed @ericpicard 's wedding.

@margarita @darth Also containers/orchestration are subtle and huge, this is a very potted explanation.
@margarita @darth That's nice to hear, thank you. I love explaining technology very much.
@amyhoy @thomasfuchs He either likes Shakira or chicken and really who can blame him either way.
@margarita It might be more like millions of servers for Stranger Things given the article. So good orchestration could save many many millions a day.
@margarita I mean I'm waving my hands a lot but it's going to be something roughly like that.
@margarita Titus is a tool for when the new season of Stranger Things comes out and you need an extra 30,000 servers that week. At huge scale you can let your robots orchestrate things like that and save millions of dollars by only using cloud services you need then turning them off ASAP.
@margarita Containers are bundles of software that programmers piece together. You can run these bundles on cloud servers.

@jackiehluo (The best are the Clojure docs which are dense like being hit in the head with a brick.
@jackiehluo Yeah it's more that they made a lot of new things look kind of like old things and then they told everyone about that in the docs and it's like wait what... is this?
@jackiehluo Meanwhile there's the HTML5 Web Platform which I do pretty much understand, and stuff like ClojureScript which compiles to JS, which I love. React is in the uncanny valley—but also it's an attractive abstraction and makes it easier to reason about state and objects.
@jackiehluo It's a weblike layer over JavaScript that renders to the web, and its community created a ton of components, backing us into a sort of decentralized SDK. The docs tell that story.
@jackiehluo React is a pretty thorough reinterpretation of the front-end web, especially with JSX, but also routing, etc. The examples are very dense, there's a compile stage assumed, and an HTML doc is the main() function instead of the goal.
@bn2b That got a RISE out of me, like the Christ is RISEN again from the dead on the 3rd day and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from there he shall come to judge the quick and the dead (ἐκεῖθεν ἐρχόμενον κρῖναι ζῶντας καὶ νεκρούς).
(I sometimes do try to think about for whom official React documentation is written. Django docs were written for MEEEE.
This React 16. 3 context tutorial by @wesbos was cheerful and super-helpful to watch and makes up for gaps in the docs.

@djacobs @rebeccablood @anildash David++. I'd guess it's at the codebase scale of MS Windows or MS Office by now.
@stephbeadell Thank you. We're about to have a big blizzard tomorrow and I was just thinking about that day.

When tweets go viral you see all kinds of people pop into your feed. It's fun to look at the snapshots of their lives.
@kzwa @jessamyn We got there after weeks of full-on angry wont-do-it tantrums. I wish I could remember more often to change strategy and look for fun or weirdness instead of digging in my heels and yelling.

@kzwa Five sentences with no tantrum, I'll take it.
@kzwa My son: “I am stupid. I am dum.
@kzwa So my daughter wrote, for me to read: “I hate you, oh goddamet, I hate myself, I am stipid and dumm! What the fuck.
@kzwa So the way that works is some people have been not wanting to practice their writing so I said they are allowed to write sentences with bad words and I will read them out loud.

@amyhoy @heretohinder i mean there's no analogue; MSFT was monopolistic but its target was other tech firms; the Bell system was monopolistic but it MOSTLY didn't control what passed through the wires; this new thing is sort of a cyber-monarchy. Maybe Janelle Monae warned us.

@karenkho It was great to see you!
You ever get a few drinks in you late at night and just really wish you could wake someone up to talk about Leo Buscaglia?

I mean they did get the part of the classic rich kid story right in that Kylo's connected parents sent him to boarding school where the headmaster is irrational and violent, and he gets super into witchcraft.
Don't you think Kylo Ren as the son of a well-known family with a flaky dad and a big-deal mom is much less likely to be Mr. King Evil and far more likely to be a Jean Ralphio-esque, like, DJ on Coruscant?

As I chit-chatted On Here about my kid having a concussion (as @maureenflaherty was at the ER doing the real parenting) eight people reached out to help, plus neighbors ready to step in. And it's mutual.
Concluding update: Everything is fine, all is well, it's a normal concussion, I don't have to go down there, and I'll be home all day tomorrow with an INCREDIBLY active little boy who can't: be crazy, flop around, read, watch TV or look at screens, or do puzzles. Imlucky,Imlucky.
She also forgot both her phones so she has no idea what I'm tweeting and the entire evening has been a complex standby scenario involving neighbors ready to watch our other kid, me jumping in a car, calls from the nurse's station.
Also to be clear @maureenflaherty is the hero here, having gone to the ER 2x (I was ready to go tonight but she's a better patient advocate than me hence the switch-off plan).
Further update: Twitter is a group of nice people who mean me and my family well. (I feel it's important to acknowledge times when little warm puffs of nice fellow-feeling rise up above the oily smoke from the tire fire.
Update: I may not have to go down to Maimonides after all.
@Choire Okay.
@meyerweb Yes—you're right.
Nor when you look at things would I ever want to lose that worry, because it's the connection to their weird, living selves. Being human is an insane proposition.
My son is at the emergency room, he's fine, I'm getting ready to go down there and relieve my wife, and I thought to myself, I would like a little vacation from worrying about my kids, just a day or two, and I realized, I will never get that vacation, it will never, ever happen.
What does Chief Compliance Officer really mean? What do you actually do?

Watching with my wife (who gets the game better than I do) and my kids some father-grandfather-child part of myself I had no idea existed showed up. Which is a pretty obvious outcome—people still care about the Blue vs.
My dad is dealing with memory loss too. Lots of time on the phone.
My son fell and got a concussion on Saturday. He's six, like his twin sister.
I was six and I'd never seen adults act that way. I went out to the other room to ask my Grandmother if everything would be okay.
I usually don't watch football but watching the Eagles win was magical. Many of my earliest 215-area-code memories are of watching all the men in my life scream in non-verbal rage at a screen while they were yet again ritually debased and humiliated.
My grandfather just punched through his coffin.
Holy shit the Eagles won the Super Bowl in my lifetime.
We just turned on the Philly police scanner.
This is intolerable.
@ir_practice @trackchangespod I mean that's a French podcast with the same name so seems unfair.

@garychou @RickWebb @goldman brb crafting A records to point to http://hellyeahsoftwareecosystems. gumblr.
@RickWebb @goldman True there is literally nothing to sign up for these days, you're already authenticated and they send hardware to your home.
@anildash What you're saying is, it just might work.
@goldman @RickWebb I see you there SURELY you have a Google+ opinion.
@goldman They're still impossible and super-nervous and utterly exhausting to interact with, though.
@goldman IDK, I never can understand what they're thinking. It just seems like they are increasingly in a place to actively do some good, and they seem to have aged into their vast (ultimately societally dangerous but what can you do) scale in a way that has eluded most of the giants.
@goldman I'm not kidding when I say: It almost can't be worse than now. It'd also be an opportunity for them to be OPEN (which is hard for them, see AMP, but good for them and us when they succeed), and really bootstrap some distributed stuff.
related https://twitter.
@goldman that's really fun. or push "discussion" to happen in parallel (literally, vertically parallel) and you have to LINK to the card/news by dragging it into your conversation.
@amyhoy Oh yeah and I'm still very angry about Inbox, don't get me wrong here. It's just switching to Pixel I went, WHOA.
@goldman Connect Google News's algorithms, AMP, their global content moderation teams, etc. I'd use it, it would be fun to be back in a Really Big Feed having opinions and building an audience.
@goldman I think capitalize on the fact that Instant Articles are a dead end and the ecosystem they've built around AMP. You actually have this very nice way to work with media without damaging monetization, because the AMP views could fit well into the Google+ stream.
@amyhoy I would have agreed until I started using photos and my Pixel 2, which are both... fun, user-centric, cloud driven but not oppressively so, sharing is NBD, okay defaults, just all the stuff that was hard for them before.
They could integrate it with Firebase as not just auth but as a sort of communications/message bus private to apps—focus on the plus, not the Google, so that any Firebase app gets a social graph API for free, and the option to link out to the big Gootch later.
@markstuckert I mean that's fine! It's a platform for building social networks that integrate with cloud services.
Also: My company runs on their stuff, I wouldn't mind a feed coming out of docs and emails and Drive or Filestream (what the hell is Filestream)? Open channels and chat, stuff that shouldn't be in Slack.
The way they murdered themselves was with that thirsty desperate mandatory YouTube integration. But now there's this global infrastructure for semi-gated medium-form media sharing just sitting around, and photos is now so good they could build ANYTHING image-based.
I kind of wonder if Google went hard on Google+ right now if it wouldn't work.
@markyarm It's MASTERFUL, but also fascinating to read 36 years later, because the vibrancy and excitement that they were documenting is completely faded, the museum pieces have been sold and resold, and only SQUALOR remains.

@simonw @knowtheory @magnetikonline @dabbledb Oh but I see like adding indexes and doing virtual tables and the like would be kind of nice from web interface. Boy that is actually a puzzler.
@simonw @knowtheory @magnetikonline @dabbledb I know but then you'd be locking the DB and blocking reads! You've created such a happy reward for bundling up lots of data into little immutable boxes, and that reward is a completely reliable immutable API that I can 7zip up and hand to anyone in the universe.
@jacobian @simonw @knowtheory @magnetikonline @dabbledb airtable's pretty good!
@michalmigurski @knowtheory oh god that's... exactly...
@knowtheory @simonw @magnetikonline The JSON interface is like, "we save the text and when you retrieve it we parse the JSON at several hundred MB/s and let you do path queries against it please stop overthinking it, this is filing cabinet.
@knowtheory @simonw @magnetikonline It's sort of a zero-magic system and proud of it. "Yeah your fancy dates are just text to us, and almost everything else is text, too.
@knowtheory @simonw @magnetikonline For another thing I was doing I dumped 200GB of JSON into it, which took overnight, and it reads that back at about 100MB/sec with a relatively complex extraction, and then you're off to the races. So I mean you can pound the hell out of it.
(1) I include fully-escaped HTML tags in a story for a publication/magazine ABOUT HTML; (2) time passes, CMSes are upgraded; (3) https://twitter.
@sophaskins https://twitter.
Come on Google. https://twitter.
@magnetikonline @simonw It takes some getting used to.
@hyfen @xpollen8 @shabbychef it was maildir, so a little less stress, i just walked the files, about 50 gb. it's like a six hour job to parse all the emails to json and dump them.
@simonw @magnetikonline I find I'm increasing the speed of exploration every time I create a subset of the data, but I can always refer back to the core data object to fetch more, and can add indexes on the JSON too. If it needs to graduate to a "real" DB, NBD.
@simonw @magnetikonline It's a GREAT pattern. Parse + dump 70GB in the bucket (8 hrs).
@evanpro @shabbychef Like most things SQLite it depends and on your def of fuzzy. Out of the box no, https://sqlite.
@knowtheory You can even pipe SQL into it with like sed scripts. And then @simonw 's datasette now means I can have a read-only API and hosting environment for little sites and visualizations launched at the command line.
@knowtheory I doubled down on it because it lines up GREAT with lazy data-hacking where you're dumping garbage in a bucket of hope. I tripled down once I got good at the JSON1 extension because you can dump anything from any API in there then extract it to tables, suits weekend projects.
That said I highly recommend being able to search 500k messages and finding/listing 200 that match a query in under 100ms on your local machine.
I got all my email into SQLite3 with full text search so I can find things like that time I wrote to @shabbychef on October 12 1996 and said “Kind of sick of big money web. I like the small, interesting web pages.

Sorry cut off I meant to write 72 hours. Obviously room for improvement and we know that four digit codes are secure so we are working with local coffee shops to make their bathroom codes a 256-bit zero padded integer.
Now where it gets interesting is when you start putting the bathroom numbers directly into a blockchain and let people pay for them with what we are calling shitcoins.
Sure well you monetize because there is already-profiled foot traffic that you can market to with coupons after their visit. And people pay to gain access to the codes.
Okay so all the bathroom codes get printed on receipts right? We create a platform where restaurants can send those to a server every day, and people can pay for an app that tells them the codes based on geolocation.

@rustyk5 Well the ML stuff has kind of overtaken the intelligent agent stuff because (1) nothing is structured; and (2) all the money is at that scale, selling to brands, instead of dealing with consumers.
@Jonny_Goodwin That was a month where basically every day was blocked ten straight hours for a project.
Then I'd have some idea of what the hell I was doing in the room. Instead of busting its ass on my behalf my computer wants to show me stock tips and weather and how long it will take to drive from from 5th Ave Manhattan home to Brooklyn (even though I took the train in).
Because my computer could say, "You're meeting with marysue @baconbits . com and that was scheduled a month ago—here are the last two emails you sent her right before it was scheduled.
It drives me bananas how much useful human info is locked away in email, calendar, tweets, etc. and how unimaginative people are about doing things with that data.
Anyway now I can have my computer write me an email saying stuff like "You have two standing meetings and two meetings with people from outside the office. One requires travel.
It's not all work, just mostly. There's kids parties and kid-watching and stuff like that (no vacations or day-long events though).

We need a marketing designer, because we are reaching out in 2018 to build a marketing platform that is basically about helping people make sense of technology and the change that is BLASTING THROUGH THE UNIVERSE #op -230842-marketing-designer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://postlight.
And we need engineers—web and software thinkers who want to engage with product managers and designers, and who are willing to go up and down "the stack" to look for opportunities and efficiencies. And who hate repeating themselves.
We need designers, people who can think systematically about UX and build interfaces to large, complex platforms, and who love to talk about that work and learning more about that. #op -192607-product-designer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://postlight.
But wait! We also need product managers!
If you believe there's one true way to build/do things (or hate deadlines), you won't like it. If you see software as culture, and want a front-row seat where you can see many industries and styles of working up close, this place is fantastic.
That said! People come in at a normal hour and leave at a normal hour, and have lunch.
We need a Director of Product Management ( #op -206522-director-of-product-management)" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://postlight. com/careers/ #op -206522-director-of-product-management) and a Director of Product Design ( #op -230497-director-of-product-design).

What is the worst wrestling entrance song? I would suggest Desert Rose.
I wish we did this sort of breakdown with every website. https://twitter.
I need a blog.
I know I talk too much about SQLite but what I've realized is that it's replaced XML for me as a data format for exploring the nature of things and pattern-seeking. Esp since you can dump JSON in and then do path queries to make smaller queryable indexed relations.

Slate and NYMag are as of now sharing a common tech platform which is... a cool and unusual example of competitors working towards a shared goal to mutual benefit!
@tressiemcphd He's a nice guy and one hell of a pilot, and he's faced death AND rasied over 75 chicks to maturity, which is why he's going to work so hard for the people of Ioho—because they deserve someone who'll fight for them in Washington.
oak trees are computers. primary schools should be replaced by real working airplanes.
literally any garbage idea is better than the ideas of the people currently running america. "everyone should wear purple hats and change their name to percy" is a better idea than the current leadership of the state department is capable of creating.
I hope the lesson the next generation takes from this is that we were useless basic people who should be unplugged ASAP but I'm more convinced you'll just elect Romney. https://twitter.
Note: You can search 1password for your burner passwords and then "expand search to all fields" and go replace all those.
Anyway I've audited all my accounts and 2FAed everything and log in with QR codes and shit and there you go, SPOTIFY, THE WEAK LINK.
I kind of want to write as the FBI and say that I'd been just arrested as a terrorist and since they were family on my family plan and that we needed some questions answered, what is a good time to talk?
Three nerds were on my Spotify family plan when I went to check (it had a dumb password, my fault) and I want to write them and say hi. One straight up used his college http://my.
I loved Joe Frank and learned an immense amount from listening to a set of files over and over. https://twitter.
I love this website and it was great. It was good until the end.
@derekmurr I've never seen that! I wonder if I saw pictures somewhere.
For some reason even though I've watched the show I can't get the idea out of my head that Mindhunter is about rogue levitating brains and that the Henry Cavill-lite one needs to turn to the Biff from Back to the Future one and go READY TO HUNT SOME MINDS? They use spears.
The platform is now blessedly fast. Everything else seems great.
Me giving you attention. https://twitter.

@RickWebb But Rick the ads can mine more credit to buy more ad placements.

@matt_deboard Basically what that piece says feels about right to me. State management is always hard and there is no magic architectural pattern.
some calming words on microservices http://www. dwmkerr.
@cjd3vries Right! And knowing that that view exists and that you can capture it actually changes your behavior and connection to the world, which is the truly fun part of technology.
@felixsalmon @Choire @gabrielsnyder @jackshafer I like how Choire trolls us with Bitcoin sweaters and then no STILL NOT ENOUGH trolling he has to trot this nightmare interview out into the light.
@TheMFingChisa An immutable record of who did the dishes.
The important thing is that everyone has fun.
Humans in aggregate can handle one or two big ideas, not 50 billion competing ideas.
I wonder if blockchain stuff will have that same wild implosion that the web did in the early 2000s, leaving only believers, who release what users actually want six years later (and then increasing, endless consolidation). https://www.
@cjd3vries Nah I'm coming off a nice iPhone 6 which had a perfectly fine camera. I mean we live in a world of unbelievable riches and we've hardly begun to use what we have, it's just wild.
(The Pixel DID completely lose its shit once and require me to reinstall everything, which was a pain in the ass. I'm still upset about it.
@mdrainey PS139 in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn.
So @_cynar mentioned Bill Laswell which put me in mind of Gigi, and I went back to Gold & Wax, which is one of the few times I've returned to something from a decade ago and found it even better than I remembered. Just a flawless album.
And if you zoom in it's all there. https://twitter.
It's just dumb stuff like this, IDK, it's very fast and easy to just mess around while you're at the playground. Same is true of iOS, I guess, I just didn't as much.

Actually I guess this tweet is a good example of exactly that.
Racism stories become media stories so fast it's crazy.
@michelet @michellelegro @annehelen @aminatou It was a sensible decision. IDK, no one remembers that thing but I built a special CMS just for index stats and me and @elizabethminkel spent lots of nice hours just lining up 25,000 stats.
@michelet @michellelegro @annehelen @aminatou But I built it using Django/Solr etc. After I left the budget was so tight (comically so) that the new web person picked his battles.
@michelet @michellelegro @annehelen @aminatou There was a digital version of the index that was pure (just words and a search bar) but had secret powers let you search and sort by stats and had a great taxonomy, and it went out in 2009 or so and got tons of traffic, tweets, and love! ( https://www.
@bn2b Wow that's weird I wonder what happened.

@meyerweb @firefox Yep! You can do a lot of this with Chrome headless, too, but try as I might I can't make Chrome headless believe I am me, whereas Firefox does run against my profile/cookies/etc.
@firefox Oh wow Twitter WRECKED those jpegs but trust me they are clear as the cold calm morning at a lakehouse in rural Maine.
I appreciate the way @firefox lets you do command-line screenshotting and cookies just work (i. e.
