@waldojaquith A cab will be $25-40 and EASY. The $15/20 buses will drop you in the middle of things. The MTA bus http://web.mta.info/mta/planning/sbs/Q70SBS.html is slow, but...authentic, and will get you to the subway. If you have time, are solo, and your bags aren't heavy, learning our mass transit system is fun.
