Last night I took a hot bath after my 30-mile bike ride, to mitigate soreness. I am a bad stretcher so it helps. And at the end of my bath I stood up to grab the towel and suddenly felt lightheaded. So I leaned back, against the cool tiles, to get my balance. But [Wife] was coming into the bathroom then, and I was down in the tub, water still draining, towel beneath me. Strange to be up, then down.
"Was there some some sort of loud bang?" I asked.
"Yes," she said.
"I didn't hear it," I said.
I was under observation for many moments. She shone a light into my eyes, said the words "emergency room." Was it a concussion? Did I hit my head? Yes, I did; I could feel mild soreness. But not remember anything. Finally the Internet told her: three things that cause fainting are dehydration, blood pressure medication, and standing up too fast. I had been thirsty all day. I hit the fainting trifecta. And fainted, and made a very loud noise, apparently, which I was too unconscious to hear.
