Eben Fine Park, Boulder

Kayakers don’t like tubers,
    teen boys, all arms
    and legs joyously spun
        down rapids,
barechested, in cutoffs
    or board shorts.
Appropriately repellent, helmeted,
these kayak guys seem to feel
        they’re in
    The Aberdeen Proving Grounds
        of middle-aged manhood.
Not that long ago somebody despised
kayakers. (Well they’re hardly Eskimos
    foraging a seal meal.) Sport
                compromises all
            purity. As does purity.
