Letter

A letter to the president regarding the Philippine war.

Dear President Bush (president@whitehouse.gov),

I recently read with great interest your thoughts regarding our experience in the Philippines as it contrasts with our current adventures in Iraq, namely that the history of American expansionism in the Philippines provide a blueprint for our current actions in Iraq.

Regarding your comments, may I recommend to you an article entitled “Give the Country the Facts” which I posted to my web site, Ftrain.com, on August 22, 2003? This article was originally written in 1901, published in The Atlantic Monthly, and may give you an idea of the sort of public opinion you will soon face if, as you put forth, the Iraq war does follow the pattern of the Philippine expansion. I found it insightful. History does indeed repeat itself, over and over.

Best wishes,

Paul Ford
